IDEALS is a recognized, results oriented Leadership Program that has been positively impacting the lives high school student athletes since 1993.
The SALT program was created to fill the demand to make the IDEALS curriculum available to more student athletes and be in a format conducive to being held on high school campuses across the nation.
In 1993, the IDEALS Foundation, a 501-c-3 educational foundation, was created to offer a proprietary signature curriculum based on life fundamentals and leadership skills enabling young people to be more effective leaders and positive role models.
Our programs are designed to focus on high school students who have shown the desire to better equip themselves to be positive leaders and who want to make a difference in their schools, their teams and in the lives of those they influence.
This month’s “Where are They Now” IDEALS student is unique in that he participated in IDEALS’ inaugural class in 1993 – Jon England.
Jon played QB at Norcross HS in Metro Atlanta and earned numerous awards for his athletic accomplishments among them: First Team All -State his senior year. His team was the first team in the County to have a perfect 10-0 regular season. He earned a scholarship to play football at the University of Georgia. His playing time at Georgia was limited but during that time he learned a valuable lesson in always being prepared even though you may not be asked to perform. This experience helped shape Jon into the person he is today and has served him well in his career, with his family and in life in general.
Jon began life after college by coaching and teaching in high school for two years before a family emergency led him to joining his family business in the floor covering business. He worked there for two and half years and then began his 12 year career with Mohawk Industries. Jon was quickly identified as a “high potential” candidate and has been on a fast track with Mohawk. He currently serves as Sr. Director of the Pad and Cushion Division and Promotional Sales at Mohawk. He loves working there because they place such an emphasis on leadership and helping people develop and have fun in the process.
Jon is married to Mandy (Amanda) and he has three daughters, Anna Grace (12), Ailee (10), and Adelyn (8). Jon and his family live in Cartersville GA where he serves as a Deacon in his church and is active in the local FCA Chapter. He says he’s a “rotational hobbyist” rotating between fishing, hunting and golf.
Jon felt like the experience he gained learning to be comfortable in front of a large group of people whether receiving an award or delivering a talk was one of the most beneficial aspects of IDEALS. Prior to IDEALS, he was extremely uncomfortable in that environment and developed a unique nervous twitch – a yawn. His family told him it didn’t look very appreciative when he was yawning when presented with an award! His other “takeaway” was being able to spend time with student athlete peers from his area in an environment where they weren’t enemies but on a common mission to develop into influential leaders in their lives.
